1) A 4Runner would be sweet, but that damn Toyota tax gets in the way of things. No manual, but honestly, I think I’d be okay without it.
2) I think I’m ready for winter to hit soon. Looking forward to the muffledness that comes with it. Maybe I’ll go skiing again this year.

Curiously...the 4Runner is precisely what Land Rover will be gunning for with the new Defender. It'll be interesting to see how the two vehicles compare this time next year...

Capability wise yes. But I wouldn’t put money on anything from Range Rover being as reliable

it's going to have to be very good to unseat an incumbent this well established and respected.

I like mine, it’s even blue! The non Pro models are actually decently priced and available below MSRP.
Mine isn’t a fancy TRD Pro, though. Damn Toyota for not offering the third row in either the Off Road or Pro. I do like the Pro colors.

M ight allow Toyota to ask even more for their top end 4Runners! The are nice rigs, especially in that blue.

You can get a third row in either the SR5 Premium or Limited trims. I’ve used it a few times to haul my son’s friends/visiting family around.

Yes there’s definitely a Toyota Tax. Cost of entry is higher, but so is resale. Too many people only focus on the purchase price of vehicles. When the true cost of ownership (Purchase price - maintenamce costs - what you sell it for) is what really matters.
My sister is a perfect example. I tried to tell her she should consider a CR-V, but she bought an Escape because it was $8000 less. It’s needed $4200 in repairs. It’s only worth $7 000 now. Had she bought a CR-V it would still be worth $14 -15 k, and probably not needed any out of warranty repairs. Not to mention it w ould of been a better driving experience everyday. I know many people are monthly payment sensitive, but from an overall finance perspective, picking the wrong vehicle can cost you more in the long run, than what you saved at the time of purchase.

The 4runner is a simple vehicle. It’s absolutely reliable. Does exactly what I ask. Very happy with ours. Recommend the Offroad version. Manual transfer case and rear locker. Electronic switched transfer cases should be exercised once a month to ensure long life. Manual transfer case just works.

Truth. It won’t happen and yet only a couple of percentage points is all JLR needs for the 'Fender to be a win.

I know about the blue. I just had my bike painted the same colour.
JLR neither frightens nor inspires Toyota much these days.

4runner is the best for the money you spend. I love my third row SR5..Only mid size suv left on truck frame..All the other ones out there are just big cars...

I was about to lease a 4runner limited and then made a deal to lease a gx460 for $25 more a month, with nothing down. Seemed like a no brainer.

Not everyone is as capable of seeing the long term picture in anything. I know someone who refuses to invest in mutual funds because they could go down and you will lose all your money. True but unlikely and a reliable fun may dip some but over the long haul you will sure see better returns than a checking account

I’ve said this many times and I’ll keep saying it. Toyota only giving the Limited trim on the 5th gen a proper center differential is a damn shame. Even the TRD Pro with all its fancy off-road gizmos is only part-time, shift-on-the-fly 4wd. Meanwhile, the 4th gen came standard with a Torsen center diff on all trims. Talk about cost-cutting BS.

I have the 2019 TRD Pro in Voodoo Blue. I LOVE IT. Tows the Miata with no problem. Goes camping with no problem. Daily drives with no problem.
Easily the best car I own.

I have a 2016 Trail , and just sold my much-loved 4th-gen . They’re such good, usable, reliable trucks.

It's interesting that the Land Rover Defender is seen as the underdog here.

Something crawls looking for 4Runner posts. My mundane ones have similar view counts. It’s crazy.

I doubt it will be much of a comparison...the LR will cost twice as much and be half as reliable.
